To improve wait times for civil and records services, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Civil and Records Division will be updating its hours of operations.  Additionally, the Civil and Records Division has upgraded to an online appointment system for your convenience. 
   

 

Appointments will be required for the following services:

  • Concealed Weapon Permits - New and Renewals
  • Fingerprinting
  • Ex-Felon Registration - New and Update/Verification
  • Sex Offender Registration – New and Update/Verification
  • Records Request

     

    New Hours of Operation:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Appointment only from 8:30am-4:00pm
  • Wednesday: Walk-ins from 1pm-3pm, effective Nov. 15, 2023.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: Walk-ins from 8:30am-10:30am; Appointment only from 1:00pm-4:00pm

The new hours of operation will become effective May 29, 2023.

Processing Services

Processing services include: permits, garnishments, records, summons/subpoenas & complaints, felon registrations, restraining orders, court orders, notices, evictions & lockouts, and Sheriff’s sales.

Civil Division

The Civil Division of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is responsible for service of process in both civil and criminal cases, as mandated by state statute. The division operates within the constraints of state, local ordinances and laws. The Civil Division provides support to other divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. The Civil Division staff processes concealed weapon permits, work permits, felon registrations, trial jurors summons, writs of garnishments, writs of possession, sheriff’s sales, restraining orders, subpoenas, summons and complaints, orders, notices, evictions and lockouts.

The Civil Division will be closed the following day(s):

Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 3:00pm-5:00pm

Friday, October 13, 2023 from 2:15pm-5:00pm

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Appointment only from 8:30am-4:00pm

Tuesday and Thursday: Walk-ins from 8:30am-10:30am; Appointment only from 1:00pm-4:00pm

Records Division

The Records Division of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office is the central repository for all records produced by the agency, including case reports, criminal history information and booking information. The section is responsible for the safekeeping, maintenance and dissemination of official documents. This section also works closely with the District Attorney, Juvenile Probation and the Justice Courts supplying them with the paperwork needed to prosecute cases.

Fees

The general public may obtain copies of an accident report for a $5.00 fee. Criminal reports are only released to the listed victim in the case, also for a $5.00 fee. Photos are available for a flat rate of $5.00 and are copied onto a CD. Copies can be ordered in person, by phone, or by mailing or faxing a Report Request Form. All fees must be paid prior to release of copies.

Fees and Permits

The Records Division also performs local criminal history background checks for individuals at no charge. The person must appear in person and provide a valid government photo ID to obtain their local criminal history.

Calls for service statistics for a specific address can be requested by property owners, managers or landlords free of charge. The appropriate Calls-For-Service Request Form is required.
